The Evolution of Web Application Architectures

Ken Abbott · Apress eBooks · 2002

This chapter briefly traces the architectural evolution of the Web from a simple mechanism for sharing published information electronically to its current role as a public infrastructure for communication, interaction, and commerce. At a more detailed level, voice-enabling technologies such as VoiceXML are just beginning on a growth path that has already been taken by vision-enabling technologies such as HTML.
