A Process-Product Classification System for Text-Picture Relations in Genres for Children
Shoshi Waksman, David I. Hanauer · Journal of Visual Literacy · 2006
The current study proposes a classificatory system for the analysis of text-picture relations for children's genre at the emergent literacy stage of development. The study explored the structural relations, process of production, and social functions of six children's genres within their specific community of practice. The qualitative study was conducted in Israel and investigated the understandings of experts in the production of children's literature, advertising, workbooks, religious and traditional literature, internet sites, and greeting cards. The developed classification system functions through the coding of the social function, process of production, and structural text-picture relations found in genre embedded within a specific community of practice.
