How can we analyse and describe technical actions?

François Sigaut · Oxford University Press eBooks · 1993

Contrary to widespread belief, the field of human technical activities has barely been explored. Archaeologists and ethnologists have only just started investigations of this type, and owing to inherent limitations in the methods adopted and the theoretical basis, the results obtained, although numerous, have not been of a quality concomitant with the enormous energy input. However, if the scientific community becomes aware of what is to be gained, progress can be made rapidly. This will surely happen, since the obvious paradox of our knowing more about the art of opening nuts by chimpanzees than by man will certainly become evident.
