As for the excitation function itself, we discussed some of the physical aspects of striking and plucking strings in Chapter 9. Recall also that our filter-based additive modal model included a pulse generator for exciting the filters (Figure 4.5), and we also added a simple low/high pass filter to the impulse generator (Figure 4.6) to control the overall brightness of the synthesis. In the next section we’ll look more closely at the plucking interaction.
