Effect of Real-World Experience on Immersion in Virtual Reality Games

Most studies on relationships between the real-world and gaming experiences have focused on the effect of digital games on daily life. The current preliminary study examined whether players' experience with a real-world game affects their immersion in a digital game simulating this real-world game. The experimental results show that real-world experience influences immersions of experienced and inexperienced gamers differently. Moreover, the results reveal that players' perceived degree of realism varies as their level of immersion changes.
