Parallel systems with flexible topology

The Multigraph Architecture, a model-integrated automatic system synthesis technology, has been applied to embedded parallel signal processing and instrumentation on distributed memory multiprocessors with flexible interconnection topology. A modeling paradigm has been designed for the domain which includes generative modeling capabilities integrated with the declarative modeling techniques of the Multigraph Architecture. The system models are automatically transformed into parallel applications by the model interpreters. The most challenging aspects of the model interpretation are the automatic process assignment and deadlock-free wormhole routing. A hierarchical assignment procedure and a hardware topology synthesis algorithm have been proposed to maximize the system throughput. Deadlock-free wormhole routing has been solved for arbitrary topologies. These results are not limited to the parallel signal processing and instrumentation domain, but generally applicable to parallel processing on computer architectures with flexible interconnection topology.
