Quantifying introductory CS students' iterative software process by mining version control system repositories

Lewis Baumstark, Michael C. Orsega · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2016

As an introduction to iterative software development, the authors have CS2 students use the code-a-little, test-a-little process. In the past, no attempt was made to determine whether or not students actually follow this process when working on their programming assignments. As their offerings of CS2 include use of version control, the authors mine students' source code repositories to quantify how well the students adhere to this iterative development model.
