The Simulation Operations Specialist as Artist and Producer

Emily Shaw · 2015

This chapter discusses how artistic endeavor can enhance the fidelity of scenarios through moulage, or design of key visual and audio, to enhance environmental emersion. The experienced simulation operations specialist (SOS) knows the necessity of compiling simulation resources and talking with connections about design, utilization, repair, and maintenance of simulators on the path to finding operational success with any solution that may be purchased or designed in-house. Hybrid solutions are available for outsourcing of parts or all of the development of a simulator. Such companies will work to generate digital 3D models and tangible prototypes of a concept for a do-it-yourself (DIY) simulator. Beta testing sites should be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to protect intellectual property, but are usually quite easy to find considering that their training centers will have access to a new simulator, without having to purchase it, in exchange for data.
