In the first and the second chapters of this book we became acquainted with one possibility for input and output, namely a data stream of individual characters. I have always mentioned that instead of the screen magnetic tapes and disks can also be used. In this chapter the other possibility will be discussed, record input and output, also general topics related to input and output in PL/I.
