Files and File Handling

Jill A. Hewitt, Raymond J. Frank · 1989

There are no file handling facilities defined for Modula-2, but any implementation of the language should provide a library of file handling routines. Such file handling routines are inevitably implementation dependent, since they utilise the facilities of the underlying operating system — hence a Modula-2 system written for VMS is likely to provide a more comprehensive set of file-handling routines than one for MSDOS. In this chapter we will discuss a simple set of routines that might be provided for a microcomputer based system, and show how they could be used to build different file structures.
