Semi-Conductors & Integrated Circuits

H C Bate · 1971

Although the earliest of semiconductor devices, the point contact diode, has been available for 30 years and the transistor for 20 years, it is only in the last decade that semiconductors have been used in large volume in electronic equipment. The reliability of the alloyed junction and diffused junctions technologies has advanced to such an extent that not only are semiconductors no longer confined to use in entertainment equipment, but a wide range are to be found in regular professional use. Examples of such use are in computer and military equipment and in such exacting applications as aerospace and electronic telephone equipment.
