Mobile Application Testing
Glenford J. Myers, Tom Badgett, Corey Sandler · 2012
Computer technology changes rapidly. This change has significantly affected the way software developers and testers do their jobs. Most software testing professionals find testing mobile applications very challenging — more so than almost any other software types or platforms. In fact, it is the devices and mobile environment more than the “application” that imposes the challenge. These two components add many variables and complexities that may skew or mask problems in the application, which makes designing a robust test plan difficult. One needs to consider network performance and reliability, consistent user interfaces, transcoder influences, device diversity, and limited resource platforms. This chapter introduces a relatively new area of software testing: Mobile Application Testing that is testing mobile and smartphone applications. It describes the mobile application environment, the challenges of testing mobile applications and the varied testing approaches. The chapter proves as a readers’ guide towards understanding the challenges and hurdles of testing mobile application.
