By mid-2012 there were approximately 28 100 active and peer-reviewed scholarly journals, collectively publishing between 1.8 and 1.9 million articles a year (Ware and Mabe, 2012). In 2013, there were an estimated 510 million active websites (Factshunt, 2014). These are merely two examples of the sources that contribute to a phenomenon that is often referred to as overload. It is there foreironic that, in a society that has an overabundance of information, it is often very difficult to find and access reliable and relevant information for study and research purposes.
