Test Tool Review and Usage

JOSE FAJARDO, Elfriede Dustin · 2012

This chapter asserts how companies acquiring test tools and test management tools will need to establish a framework for deciding which processes are suitable for test automation and also identifying the necessary resources for maintaining the test tools and test management tools. The methodology and approaches for testing are more important than the chosen test tool. It is unlikely that a single vendor would offer a test tool that meets all the automation challenges of an SAP project, and consequently the SAP project will have to apply an automation framework that includes one or more test tool vendors in addition to manual testing. SAP also provides its own native testing solution from its test workbench, which is eCATT. Test management tools are used for test planning, test repository, test design, test execution, reporting defects, reporting, audit trails, and tracking defects. Test management tools can also be used to store and execute both automated test cases and manual test cases. Furthermore, test results, test logs, and defects can also be stored within a test management tool that includes a date/time stamp and audit trails. Some test management tools also offer e-mail workflow capabilities on reported and closed defects.
