The Application of Optical Flow Field Technology in Solar Images

Optical flow can be employed to descript horizontal movement. In this paper, we survey several algorithms of optical flow field measurement that have been used to determine horizontal flow fields on solar surface during the past few years. These techniques, include Local Correlation Tracking (LCT), Inductive Local Correlation Tracking (ILCT), Fourier Local Correlation Tracking (FLCT), Minimum Energy Fit (MEF) and pyramid algorithm Lucas-Kanade (LK), are summarized and their merits and demerits are compared. At last, the future development trends of these techniques are also discussed.
