Considering Database Security
John Paul Mueller · 2012
IDEA provides some safeguards for data that people work with. This chapter focuses on some simple ways of making the application significantly more secure without a lot of work on the user's part or the use of exotic techniques. Most of the security holes in applications today are the result of bugs of some sort. That is why people often receive an update for an application to fix the security errors that it contains. Data type is something that many developers do not define. In IDEAScript, variables can be used literally without ever declaring any of them. Most people associate security with building a wall. Security is often more an issue of simple vigilance. It can be viewed as a matter of helping. Dialog boxes present one of the greatest security dangers to the application because dialog boxes are the application's method of interacting with the user. The chapter explains some ideas that can be used to keep the less-skilled intruder at bay and reduce the potential for accidental errors that could result in data loss. The chapter also focuses on IDEA; the users need to provide security for the machine as a whole, and other applications as well in order to consider the system relatively safe.
