Introduction to model‐based testing

Anne Krämer, Bruno Legeard · 2016

This introduction provides insights into this book, which aims to give a realistic idea on what can be achieve with model-based testing (MBT), how to do it, and where the limitations are. The industrial demands regarding time-to-market and cost reduction constantly increase and definitely affect testing. Testing less not being an option, faster and better tests are needed. This is where MBT comes in. By writing MBT models, the tester applies a technique also used in requirements analysis and development to manage complexity by abstraction. MBT is not just reusing development models and working with a tool, but an entire new approach to test design and test implementation. It positively affects the efficiency and effectiveness of testing on several aspects. This chapter sums up several drawbacks, misleading expectations, and pitfalls of MBT. MBT is not equivalent to complete test automation.
