This chapter reviews findings from the basic study of eye movements in cognitive psychology and perception and considers the implications of these findings for human factors researchers and practitioners. The discussion focuses largely on the aspects of eye movements that pertain to human performance in visual search and supervisory monitoring tasks or human interaction with machine systems.
