Electroweak Interactions Of Quarks
Luciano Maiani · 2015
In this chapter we consider the incorporation of subnuclear matter into the Weinberg-Salam theory. Hadrons, the particles sensitive to strong interactions, are described by states composed of quarks and antiquarks. In nature, three families, or generations, of quarks are observed with the same electroweak quantum numbers, according to the scheme: ( u d ) L ; uR, dR;( c s ) L ; cR, sR;( t b ) L ; tR, bR. (10.1) There are three varieties of each quark field distinguished by a colour quantum number with which the strong interactions of the quarks are associated (e.g., u→ uα, α = 1, 2, 3; cf. section 8.3).
