COX - C with operator eXtension

Nowadays three important requirements for scientific programming languages (mathematical operator notation, short response time in the research phase and high performance of the compiled program) can only be achieved partly. For that interactive and compilative languages choose almost complementary concepts. Interactive systems are specialized for certain applications but have only restricted language concepts. Compilative languages have more general languages concepts, but they cannot always be used as specific as needed. In this paper we present a new approach to this problem. The COX system (C with Operator eXtension) combines a (pre-) compiler with an interpreter and supplies a generalized language concept. It allows the realization of many special properties of interactive systems.
