A First Look at JMP

Ian Cox, Marie Gaudard, Mia L Stephens · 2016

This chapter deals with JMP, the enabling software that is used for Visual Six Sigma. It provides sufficient background to allow the reader to use JMP in case studies. The chapter gives some basic background on how JMP works, and talks about the structure of data tables, modeling types, obtaining reports, visual displays and dynamic linking of displays, and window management. The visual displays and analyses can show many of the different menu items in JMP. The effective use of Visual Six Sigma usually requires the coordinated, often linked, use of these menu items to accomplish something worthwhile. The chapter provides an illustration of a DOE menu, which generates settings for a designed experiment based on choices of experimental design type, responses, factors, number of runs, and other settings. A JMP script can be saved as a separate file with a .jsl extension or it can be saved as part of a data table.
