A simple language and machine

Peter C. Capon, Pete J. Jinks · 1988

In chapters 3 to 5 the design and construction of a simple compiler is introduced. The general principles presented are illustrated using a complete actual compiler. To avoid excessive detail in the compiler a trivial subset of Pascal, called P, has been created. The compiler, which is implemented in Pascal, is designed to process programs written in P. The compiler generates a form of code for a computer called the M machine. The complete description of P, by means of syntax and semantic rules, together with the specification of the M machine form a requirements specification for the compiler, which must map from P to M.
