Breast imaging is one of several subspecialties within radiology that requires comprehensive knowledge of multiple imaging modalities and technical skill in performing procedures within each of these modalities. In addition to being a crucial and integral part of surgical treatment, these procedures are often the first line in diagnosis of breast pathology. For this reason, it is important for those providing these services to be fully competent in performing the various interventions of the field. Medical training ideally promotes training with simulators to provide trainees with a safe, risk-free environment for learning procedural techniques. Simulation-based training (SBT) for technical skills acquisition in diagnostic and therapeutic image-guided breast procedures has been practiced with a variety of phantoms. For this purpose, we have created novel breast phantoms that have been successfully used with diagnostic and interventional modalities.
