Building Information Web Portals

Apress eBooks · 2009

I n this chapter, I’ll use Rails to develop two information web portals. The first is simple: it uses the inverted person-name index I created in the last chapter using Hadoop to provide local search for people’s names on Wikipedia. The second example implements an information-processing portal that is intended for personal use or for use in a small workgroup. This second example allows you to register “interesting things” that can be local document files and web URLs. When you browse your interesting things, you will see similar information sources. You can export both data and associations from the web portal to JSON format using a web-service API, and you can perform SPARQL queries on that data. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
