The Boost Library: An Introduction
Daniel J. Duffy, Jörg Kienitz · 2012
This chapter introduces the Boost library, which would become part of the official C++ standard in due course. An overview of what the Boost library offers is presented and exercises on how to use it are provided. Boost library extends and improves Standard Template Library (STL) and brings C++ to a higher level. The libraries of the Boost library are very well written and if one knows C++ templates and STL syntax, one would not have much difficulty understanding and applying them. Two libraries of Boost library, Boost.Serialisation and Boost.Filesystem, are discussed. Boost.Serialisation allows the developer to write data to and retrieve data from a disk. The chapter discusses Regex, Spirit, and Tokenizer, which are the three major libraries in Boost for analyzing and parsing text and strings.
