How MBT relates to test design techniques?

Anne Krämer, Bruno Legeard · 2016

This chapter provides a brief overview on the most commonly used techniques and illustrates how they show up in model-based testing (MBT) models. These techniques include equivalence partitioning and boundary value analysis, decision tables, state transition testing and use case testing. The chapter shows a simple MBT model combining a behavioral workflow diagram with a decision table. The decision table formalizes price list and options for the “Buy ticket” action. The MBT tool then processes both the diagram and the decision table, generating test cases for the different business scenarios. The chapter provides an overview on the use cases for an automated teller machine (ATM). It shows the two main actors (the ATM operator and the customer) and a selection of use cases. In practice, use case diagram may be more complex, containing additional model elements describing dependencies or specializations and nonhuman actors.
