Practical Hands‐On Lab Topics in Cyber‐Risk

Mehmet Şahinoglu · 2016

Hands-on lab education is a must-have component to prepare students in mitigating the rising threats facing the information security and privacy-based vulnerabilities. The goal of this chapter is to familiarize the reader or the analyst or the to-be-graduating student with essential tools to configure, monitor, and maintain the primary components of the cyber-security assembly at your firm or personal laboratory or a factory or business whose security and privacy you are protecting. This lab manual-like chapter challenges the reader to address a critical lack of quality in purely academic books and general purpose security lab exercise manuals. Readers are provided with case studies, by ethically avoiding criminal hacker-like activities, obtained from live lab practices. This chapter also includes hands-on exercises that refer to each section. The class-tested section material and exercises as conducted at AUM's Cybersystems and Information Security (CSIS)CySecLab have proven useful for our graduate program students. These jobs absolutely require applicants to be equipped with certain fundamental knowledge on the practical side of information security in this text essential to Cyber-Risk Informatics.
