Using Samba Scripts

Roderick W. Smith · Apress eBooks · 2004

Samba’s primary purpose is to function as a file and print server—to store and deliver files and make printers accessible to clients. As such, most people think of Samba as being a tool simply for file storage and printer access and perhaps as a tool to perform SMB/CIFS support functions, such as handling NetBIOS Name Server (NBNS) duties. Samba’s design, though, gives it the option of performing much more dynamic tasks. In particular, Samba can run scripts or other programs under specific circumstances. This ability means that Samba can dynamically process information on behalf of clients. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
