General Relativity Basics

Birkhäuser Basel eBooks · 2009

We begin with Einstein’s theory in this chapter. Since the full mathematical background will be developed in Part II, for the present the student is advised to regard \( g_{\mu u } , \Gamma _{ u \sigma }^\mu , R_{\mu u } \) etc. as sets of physical quantities which are labelled by indices just as the familiar vectors and fields are. The words “tensor”, “connection components” or coefficients should not bother the student.
