Real-Time Management and Environmental Telematics
Steve Perham, Grant Ledgerwood · 2017
This chapter explores two areas of corporate environmental management (CEM) being impacted by real-time management (RTM) telematics technologies. The first, corporate environmental management strategies and logistics, will be advanced radically by RTM applications whose cost per unit of data processing is falling each year by a factor of ten. The second, the impact on urban regeneration, offers the possibility of efficient use of urban locations, as explored in a case study in the English county of Kent. Impacts of RTM systems on corporate environmental strategy and logistics guarantee a tidal wave of change for corporations. Telematics will catalyse technologically-driven corporate change. Environmental data can be collected, centrally analysed in a computer, and graphically presented, probably in a Global Positioning System (GPS)/Geographical Information System (GIS) format, on a continuous second-by-second basis. Evidence shows that corporate systems are increasingly decentralised as they are re-engineered into more autonomous semi-independent marketing networks.
