Development of Computer Processes

Peter Haine, Ernest Haidon · 1978

In Chapters 4 and 5 the computer and computer languages have been discussed, and the formulation of problems and algorithms for their solution introduced. Now we come to the consideration of the process of translating the solution in such a way that it can be implemented on a computer system and make effective use of its facilities. There are, of course, certain constraints placed on the nature of the solution by, for example, the completely logical operation of the machine, the facilities afforded in the language and the fact that, in general, the author of the solution will not be actually operating the machine through the process. We will see that such constraints make the way in which the computer process is developed and tested of paramount importance and bring particular relevance to the documentation that supports the process.
