Introducing MBT in your company

Anne Krämer, Bruno Legeard · 2016

Introducing model-based testing (MBT) into an existing test process is comparable to any other organizational change project. MBT helps in testing systems of such complexity that people would never be able to manage in the traditional, document-based approach. This chapter discusses five steps to MBT adoption, reuse of MBT models, early fault detection, automated test case generation and execution, and dedicated test selection. It is important to prioritize the organizational objectives to know, which characteristics of the MBT approach matters most. To know whether the introduction of MBT was successful or not, it is good project management practice to define the so-called key performance indicators (KPIs), which are based on metrics, which are in turn based on measures. Good practices regarding deployment of an MBT process, various cost factors, and integration of tools are also discussed.
