Typical VDU Design

Robin Holland · 1995

A VDU (Visual Display Unit) is a computer terminal that acts as an interactive operator device. Information is displayed on a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) and the operator enters commands and information to the computer through a keyboard. Connection between the VDU and the computer is via an RS232-C serial data link. Information can be displayed in text form (the normal typewriter character set) or in graphical form (colour or monochrome). In this chapter, a text-only VDU is described.
