An integrated software design paradigm

Design Object Descriptive Attribute Notation (DODAN) is a knowledge representation for expressing software system designs, especially those of time-critical systems. DODAN coordinates multiple design perspectives, supports the rapid prototyping of software systems with an emphasis on the exercisability of the design, and enhances reusability of design information. DODAN can be realized as a CASE tool with which the software engineer may interact in a variety of ways. A sample prototype has been implemented using the ART (The Automatic Reasoning Tool) expert system tool. The user enters a software system design in DODAN from which the system generates dataflow diagrams, state transition diagrams and other dependency analysis information. The system also produces language-specific implementation specifications, Ada in the prototype system, from the DODAN representation. DODAN is thus an intermediate form from which graphical information, code-generation information and timing simulation may be generated. It also serves as the uniform knowledge representation for an integrated software design paradigm.
