This report outlines the laboratory corrosion tests for the materials used in the dual p urpose canisters (DPC).T he proposed testing program i s designed to assess whether structural integrity of a stainless steel basked will be preserved in case of an early breach (flooding with groundwater) during direct disposal of a DPC.Additionally, we are addressing several of the most uncertain areas concerning material behavior in a repository, particularly corrosion rates of t he corrosion-resistant materials under anoxic conditions, potential for the localized corrosion and its feedback to the mechanical strength of the waste package components. The materials proposed for testing are stainless steels 304/304L and 316/316L -widely used in the existing DPCs, and prospective overpack materials Hastelloys C-4 and C-22.These results will contribute to the overall evaluations on the feasibility of the direct disposal of DPCs.
