Modelling and exploiting traceability between development documents

This paper presents an approach to support the exploitation of large sets of related documents. This approach is based on the identification of traceability links between the documents, according to the recognition of the information described in the different documents. It has been implemented for the exploitation of software development documents for large space systems. After a quick analysis of the documents produced in that context, we present the different steps that led to the modelling of both the software documentation and the traceability links between its components. This model will be implemented in a so-called {open_quotes}traceability platform{close_quotes}, which will be inter-connected with existing development environments to offer a set of functionabilities dedicated to the exploitation of traceability information by maintenance teams.
