Application in Dynamic Reliability

Jean‐François Aubry, Nicolae Brînzei, Mohammed‐Habib Mazouni · 2016

This chapter highlights the problem of modeling hybrid dynamical systems for dependability assessment. It discusses the influence of the functional behavior on the occurrence and nature of the failure modes and, reciprocally, the impact on the operating mode of failure occurrences in the control system. There are several conceivable means to build up an aggregated graph: the first consists of displaying the reachability graph to identify all the elementary states, and then lumping them together in macro-states, sets of elementary states, in accordance with a common operating mode. The chapter uses Monte-Carlo simulation of Petri net (PN) sub models to evaluate weighting coefficients of failure rates. The performances of a Monte-Carlo simulation are dependent on the number of stories N to be simulated, and the duration of each story T. The simulations are performed with N=1000. This value is more than enough to obtain accurate results for the system.
