Prototype Network Architecture for Providing Low Cost Access and Connectivity for the Rural Masses
Sudhir Warier · IETE Technical Review · 2005
The objective of this article is to present a network architecture specifically designed for providing low cost access to the rural masses. The architecture integrates the currently available transport technologies with alternative access technolgies to provide a robust framework that is simple to design and deploy while providing for scalability. The architecture is also futureproof and would be able to accomodate any changes that are forseeable in the transport domain. Further as the scale of deployment increases DWDM/UDWDM technologies can also be integrated into the exisiting framework resulting in higher bandwidth and lower cost per unit. In conjunction with low cost intutive applications foccused towards the rural masses, such a network can help us realize our vision of making India an economic and IT superpower.
