Dychart: a model for open systems

Simin Kamvar · 1986

In this thesis we present a model called DYCHART which is aimed at representing the behavior of complex dynamic systems that interact strongly with the environment (open systems), and allow for concurrent actions. Such models are especially useful for modeling large enterprises, particularly modern factories, many of which currently planning major modification leading to automation and computer-integrated manufacturing. Current formal models including Finite State Automata and Petri nets are inadequate because they represent closed system. We present here a formal definition of DYCHART, analyze some of its properties such as equivalence and closure, and compare them to other models.
