Cooperating Expert Systems for Cadcam

Although they are been a necessary step in gaining insight into the design and operation of knowledge-based systems, autonomous expert systems are self limiting in their applicability, potentially leading to ‘Islands of Expertise’. A much more promising approach to system integration for Computer Integrated Manufacture is the developing technology of cooperating expert systems. The authors’ AGENTS system has been briefly described.
