An experiment in teaching structured fortran
Robert R. Wier · 1983
Approximately 1500 beginning FORTRAN students are split into two groups. One group is taught FORTRAN - 66 and the other is taught a FORTRAN containing program control structures similar to those in the FORTRAN - 77 standard. Results of three different tests of the groups' performance are presented. These tests include an analysis of student written programs via software science, an analysis of the errors generated by these student programming assignments, and an analysis of performance on the examinations given over course material. Results show some indication of better class performance by the structured code group, although not in all tests applied.
