On the Simultaneous Exploitation of Multiple Source-to-Relay Channels in Buffer-Aided Two-Hop Cooperative Networks

Motivated by the recent buffer-aided cooperative protocols that select the single best link at each time slot, in this paper we introduce additional design degree of freedom into them, by simultaneously exploiting broadcast channels between the source node and the multiple buffer- aided relay nodes. More specifically, our proposed scheme is designed to allow multiple relay nodes to receive a specific source packet through source-to-relay broadcast channels, hence resulting in multiple copies of the source packet, which are stored in buffers of the relay nodes. As the results, our proposed protocol is capable of reducing the overhead required for monitoring the available links and the end-to-end packet delay, in comparison to the conventional buffer-aided cooperative protocols, while attaining a high diversity order comparable to that of the max-link protocol.
