A tool for the usability analysis of computerised systems
Eduardo Mosqueira-Rey, Vicente Moret‐Bonillo · Annual Conference on Computers · 2006
This paper describes the design and development philosophy for an integrated usability analysis system based on subjective, empirical and heuristic methods. Our system, VISNU (Validation of Intelligent Systems aNd Usability), incorporates heuristic methods to facilitate the design of GOMS (Goals, Operators, Methods and Selection Rules) models and ergonomic checklists, and subjective methods designed to ascertain user opinions. The subjective methods are implemented via closed questionnaires, which can then be analysed using the MAUT (Multi-Attribute Utility Theory) or AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) methods. Finally, from an empirical perspective, the system permits statistical analysis of log files, task hierarchy identification using log files, the creation of GOMS models from logs, and finally, comparisons between a priori predictions and real a posteriori results.
