Changes in Cholinesterase Activity in Stored Equine Blood Samples
R. L. Schindler, Samuel M. Kruckenberg · American Journal of Veterinary Research · 1972
SUMMARY Effects of storing equine red blood cell and serum samples at 4 C. (refrigerated) and —17 C. (frozen) on cholinesterase activity were determined. Cholinesterase activity in red blood cells stored at 4 C. for 8 weeks was lost, whereas that in red blood cells stored at −17 C. was partially retained (75%). Cholinesterase activities in serum samples stored at 4 C. and −17 C. were 93% and 87%, respectively, of control values after 8 weeks of storage. Effects of freezing and thawing serum samples on serum and erythrocyte cholinesterase activity were also determined. Alternate freezing and thawing as many as 15 times had little effect on the activity of erythrocyte or serum cholinesterase.
