Graphic presentation of research data often requires the drawing of a curve. Such curves are frequently drawn by hand so that the observed data points are connected and a trend in the values of an observed variable as a function of the value of another variable becomes evident. The method of least squares allows one to draw such curves so that they fit the data in an optimized way and on the basis of an objective criterion. In this paper, the calculating scheme for fitting curves using the orthonormal polynomial method is demonstrated.
