Comparing development roles in software localisation

Malte Ressin, José Abdelnour-Nocera · 2011

Localisation is an activity in software development in which different disciplines collaborate closely on a common product. We examine the interaction of workers in different roles with distinct socio-technical and socio-cultural backgrounds in this scope and look at how their collaboration produces localisations in the form of cultural, linguistic, economic etc. variants of a base product. We use interviews and a survey to examine processes and infrastructure as well as perception, attitude and competence differences regarding localisation. Our aim is to inform practice towards an improved understanding of software localisation, its issues and their causes.
