Making your PC behave like another

John Voelcker · IEEE Spectrum · 1986

The emulation of one personal computer (PC) by another is considered. The meaning of the term `emulation' is examined, and current approaches are described. A table of specifications for selected personal-computer emulators is included, and innovative products that are emerging are described. The underlying approach to emulation is examined, and the problems involved in splitting functions between processors and using peripherals are discussed.
