‘… done from within’— Agatha Christie’s World

Stephen Knight · Palgrave Macmillan UK eBooks · 1980

In the fiction room at Foyle’s London bookshop two large signs direct customers to the books most often sought. One proclaims Sherlock Holmes, the other Agatha Christie. Her reputation as an author has become as prodigious as that of Doyle’s detective. By 1979 her sales, in all languages and formats, were approaching five hundred million copies. Forceful marketing and a steady output have played their part, but Christie’s product obviously has the power to compel and satisfy readers. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
