Using Co-evolutionary Genetic Algorithm for Intrusion Detection in Cloud

Chaozhuo Li, Lin Cheng · International Conference on Multimedia Information Networking and Security · 2013

Recently, security issues in cloud environment are getting more and more attentions. Owing to the special characteristics of cloud, traditional passive defense strategy (firewall, etc.) can't fully ensure the security of user data or user services offered by cloud. Luckily, intrusion detection system (IDS) which can defense network actively is the drawback strategy after firewall. To improve performance of IDS, artificial intelligence algorithms used in intrusion detection system has been widely discussed. In this paper, a brief overview of the IDS and basic information about co-evolutionary genetic algorithm (CGA) and related detection techniques are mentioned. Parameters and evolution process of CGA are discussed in detail, and we propose a framework which can be used in cloud environment to detect intrusion behavior. At last we compare the difference between performances comes from normal genetic algorithm and CGA.
