This paper presents an analysis on the performance of dual-polarized L-Quad antenna arrays for direction finding based on the MUSIC and Maximum Likelihood techniques. Circular and linear arrangements comprising five L-Quad antennas for the 1710 - 1785 MHz frequency band will be investigated with respect to direction finding performance. The source signals are modeled as stochastic (unknown), with Gaussian zero mean distribution for unconditional estimation. Owing to the dual polarization of the array investigated, it is possible to eliminate some errors that are due to polarization mismatch between the antenna and the signal and improve the estimation of the Direction of Arrival (DoA). Results for the error of the DoA estimation will be presented for both azimuth and elevation directions for different array arrangements and inter-element spacings in order to draw a conclusion on the effects of the array geometry and mutual coupling to the direction finding process.
